Mob Museum Guide
Uncover the Underworld: Journey Through Organized Crime History Guide
Step back in time and delve into the dark and fascinating world of organized crime at the Mob Museum, officially known as the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. Located in a historic former courthouse in downtown Las Vegas, this museum offers a gripping and unflinching look at the rise and fall of the Mob, its impact on American society, and the ongoing battle against it. Prepare to be captivated by authentic artifacts, interactive exhibits, and compelling stories of notorious gangsters and the law enforcement officials who brought them to justice. The Mob Museum is housed in the former Las Vegas Post Office and Courthouse, a building with its own rich history. Built in 1933, it was one of the few federal buildings in Las Vegas at the time and played a role in several significant events, including a 1950 Kefauver Committee hearing on organized crime. The museum's exhibits cover a wide range of topics, from the early days of the Mafia to the rise of Las Vegas as a Mob-controlled city. You'll see artifacts like the brick wall from the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, weapons used by gangsters, and personal belongings of famous Mob figures. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits that allow them to learn about wiretapping, money laundering, and other Mob tactics. You can also participate in simulated FBI training exercises and test your knowledge of organized crime history. The museum also features a working distillery and speakeasy in the basement, offering a taste of the Prohibition era. While the speakeasy offers themed cocktails and small bites, the culinary focus is more on the historical context than a specific culinary tradition. The surrounding downtown area offers a variety of dining options.
